I’m working on decorating a rented room. I have most of my stuff picked out - rug, wall hangings, curtains, etc. The issue is the fluorescent light in the middle of the room. It’s one of those standard industrial-style long rectangular panels that have two of the long light tubes inside of them - looks like http://0.tqn.com/d/electrical/1/0/Z/0/-/-/fluorescentfixture.jpg . The rest of the room is a more classic/elegant theme, and the light fixture stands out like a sore thumb.

What can I do to make the light less garish?
It’s a rented space, so I can’t make any changes that are permanent or would leave any permanent holes or residue. Hence why I’m not having it replaced.
The light quality itself isn’t the issue…the issue is that the fixture is up on the ceiling and I have to look at it, even if I don’t turn it on.
