Open Question: How can I tell whether a fluorescent lamp socket is shunted or not?
Posted by adminJan 29
I’m installing dimmable ballasts in a new 4-bulb T8 strip light and I need to make sure that the tombstones are rapid start before I energize it. By searching for images of shunted sockets, it looks as though they only have 2 holes in which to insert a wire. However, I tested the resistance between the two contacts which the pins on the bulb will touch and got a reading of 0 ohms. I’m having a heck of a hard time finding a supplier who even knows what an unshunted socket is, let alone has it in stock. I can order them online, but if it’s not necessary I’d like to just use the existing sockets.
