I got these spiral fluorescent light bulbs, on the package I read “Use only on 120V 60Hz circuits”, but the light bulb I replaced it for said it was 130V on the bulb? The fluorescent bulb works, but just wondering if this is all right and safe? It seems so, but I was just wondering.

Was that why she was here? To save him? Pulling his jacket tighter, he couldn’t draw his eyes away from the line. It was not interesting, just yellow and straight.
He refocused on the safety line.
“Get out of here Katherine”.
” I’ve been gorging myself on anger, hardly a meal I want to share with you darling”, was what he found his mind really wanting to say. She looked beautiful in a fragile, anaemic sort of way under the fluorescent lights of the train station, like a skeleton leaf that had settled on the cold, dull concrete.
Yet even her presence caused him pain. He feared that if he looked at her the same way ever again, he would pay in lines of crimson smeared flesh.
He clamped his jaw shut , unwilling to explain, because the station’s clocks were behind enough as it was. So instead he kept his head to the ground looking at the equal distance between her delicate feet and the harsh line. He had a choice, her words would determine that choice.
Neil’s pensive stare lifted from the train line, to the lines streaking all over Katherine’s face.
“From one line to another, you weren’t there when I needed you. Why should this be any different,” he asked churlishly.
The question made the lines leaking from her eyes smudge her face like a cheap painting, left near an open window just before a thunderstorm.
She kissed him, not a passionate kiss, but a protective kiss on his crown where his matted hair met his scalp, now wet with her tears.
She hugged him to her chest; a rigid temple of emotion, slowly collapsing, as her words reverberated in the crux of his neck, soundly almost like an apology.
“Because I’m here now” she soothed holding out her hand, as she led him further and further away from the line.

I work at a shop that sells wedding dresses, prom dresses, mother-of-the-bride dresses, etc. At this point the walls are white or other colors left over from the previous owner and I want to suggest we repaint - what color should I suggest?

At first I thought pink because it is such a flattering and feminine color. However, the lighting is fluorescent, and after some research I discovered that fluorescent lighting usually dulls warm colors, but accentuates cool colors.

I read in a magazine I think that turquoise is a very flattering wall color. Also I was thinking maybe Tiffany blue, for some elegance. What other colors would be good? Thanks!

I turn it on and it comes on. But a little while later, it goes out. None of the other ones in the kitchen do this. What is the remedy?

I know little about lightbulbs so…

The lightbulb socket says 60w, that means i am not allowed to use a 100w….

But am i allowed to use the newer fluorescent 100w light bulb in these sockets(That really are 23w)?
or what max light can i use so it wont cause a fire?

And what size base do I have, it normal so is it a medium?

I am growing plants for this summer from seeds and I have seedlings. To help them grow i have put up a fluorescent light. Is it ok if i keep the light on all night? Is it better to give this this artificial light at night or while there is natural sun out?

I am trying to remember a song I absolutely loved, probably at least 5 years ago. The genre was dance, and the singer was a black female with very short hair. What I remember about the video is something like at different parts of the song, there were computer animated flowers twirling on her eyes? Or maybe she had fluorescent paint on her eyes under a black light. I do remember her fluttering her eyes and something was different about them. Sorry so vague, and thoughts are appreciated.

hello, a around 3 1/2inch whites tree frog that bought a few days ago, and all i want to know is if im doing a good job with him:

its in a 7.5 gallon cube exo terra tank. (im going to upgrade soon) its substrate is eco earth, some areas have all natural moss. a big log going throught the middle (it sticks up) a vine(real) on the log, and a fake plant on the side of the tank. a full spectrum light is on top the screen. it gives off SOME heat, so its around 73F, sometimes 67F. i spray down the tank a few times a day, and hes on a special diet. 2 crickets every other day. i powder the crickets if you were wondering. sometimes earth worms. so far, he only at 1cricket yesturday, and two days ago. its pretty humid in the tank. its being housed with a tiger salamander, which i know is risky, but the tiger is smaller then the frog, so its okay. i change the water almost every day with spring water. the white tend to stay on the top part of the cage, and just sleeps. is that normal? i hold him like once every two days. at most. all i want to know is what im doing wrong and what im doing right, its my first frog.

thanky you

OH YEAH, the tiger has already incountered the frog and he didnt bite at him or nothing. they never fight, so the tiger sal and frog are totlally cool with each other

We have to have enclosed covers over our light at our processing facilities. We have heard that you cannot put these types of bulbs inside these covers as the base gets too hot in an enclosed area. Is this true?

Which type of light bulb would consume more energy?

Iv had my 20 gallon high well over a year now…the hood has only space for 1 18” florescent light (which is 15w T8). I know most people will say this sucks and I suck and can’t grow anything but Iv been doing OK with choosing mostly low light plants. Well here’s what has grown and reproduced java fern, elodea, wisteria, marimo, penny wort from backyard, and lloydiella. I’m getting some mosses too. Everything is doing well and there is growth but not as much has my 10 gallons (they only have 2 CFL 14watt each)…but anyways I thought maybe about getting one of those bulbs that says they are specifically made to help plants grow…maybe it will help even a tiny bit? I think it’s time for a new bulb anyway?

I would love to get a whole new lighting system on it, that would be awesome, I’m not anti-better light fixtures it’s just that I don’t have that money right now and I’m not sure my parents would agree that it is a major priority, which I totally understand.

PLEASE only respond if you can help or give me some advice, I understand that the lighting is less than ideal. If you just want to put me down for not having more expensive lighting then I’m not going to finish reading it. I’m trying to make the best of what I have right now.

Phenol scare story…

A German TV programme called Markt has reported that energy saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) emit a chemical called phenol.

Their scientist has tested five makes of CFLs in sealed containers over 3 day periods and reported the detection of phenol. They have not reported the concentrations of phenol detected.

Further research is needed to verify and quantify what the issues really are.

All electronic circuits produce volatile organic compounds and it is not clear that CFLs produce anything different to TV, printers or other electrical devices.

The German and UK authorities have both said that CFLs are safe to use.

Fruit and cucumbers both produce phenol as they ripen so the detection of phenol in itself should not frighten anyone.

Energy saving light bulbs ‘contain cancer causing chemicals’ (Daily Telegraph, 20 April, 2011)

Fears have been reignited about the safety of energy saving light bulbs after a group of scientists warned that they contain cancer causing chemicals.

Their report advises that the bulbs should not be left on for extended periods, particularly near someone’s head, as they emit poisonous materials when switched on.

Peter Braun, who carried out the tests at the Berlin’s Alab Laboratory, said: “For such carcinogenic substances it is important they are kept as far away as possible from the human environment.”

The bulbs are already widely used in the UK following EU direction to phase out traditional incandescent lighting by the end of this year.

But the German scientists claimed that several carcinogenic chemicals and toxins were released when the environmentally-friendly compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) were switched on, including phenol, naphthalene and styrene.

Andreas Kirchner, of the Federation of German Engineers, said: “Electrical smog develops around these lamps.

“I, therefore, use them only very economically. They should not be used in unventilated areas and definitely not in the proximity of the head.”

British experts insisted that more research was needed and urged consumers not to panic.

Dr Michelle Bloor, senior lecturer in Environmental Science at Portsmouth University, told the Daily Express: “Further independent studies would need to be undertaken to back up the presented German research.”

The Department for the Environment insists the bulbs are safe, despite the fact that they contain small amounts of mercury which would leak out if the glass was broken.

Advice on its website states: “Energy efficient light bulbs are not a danger to the public.
“Although they contain mercury, limited at 5mg per lamp, it cannot escape from a lamp that is intact.”

“In any case, the very small amount contained in an energy efficient bulb is unlikely to cause harm even if the lamp should be broken.”

The latest report follows claims by Abraham Haim, a professor of biology at Haifa University in Israel, that the bulbs could result in higher breast cancer rates if used late at night.

He said that the bluer light that CFLs emitted closely mimicked daylight, disrupting the body’s production of the hormone melatonin more than older-style filament bulbs, which cast a yellower light.

The Migraine Action Association has warned that they could trigger migraines and skin care specialists have claimed that their intense light could exacerbate a range of existing skin problems.
